Repeated exposure to violent content can reinforce the message that violence is an acceptable means of conflict resolution. Research shows that children are at risk of learning that violence is an acceptable means of conflict resolution when violence is glamourised, performed by an attractive hero, successful, has few real life consequences, is set in a comic context and / or is mostly perpetrated by male characters with female victims, or by one race against another. Ultimately, the unlikely allies must band together not only to save Cassandra and their city but also to save themselves. Together the foursome work to save Cassandra (Ella Jay Basco) a young pickpocket who inadvertently stole and ingested the legendary diamond that Roman seeks to bankroll his evil empire. Through a series of seemingly unrelated events Harley finds herself working with Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) a brilliant yet unrecognised cop, Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) a lounge singer with special talents and The Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) a self-made assassin. However, she quickly begins to see how many people want revenge for the pain she has caused, including Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor) one of the city’s most evil and powerful men. What Harley doesn’t realise is that her relationship with The Joker is all that protected her from the retribution of the numerous people she upset or harmed while she was with him. material that may scare or disturb childrenĪfter The Joker ends their relationship, the unstable and volatile Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) decides to send him a violent message and simultaneously declare her emancipation. This review of the movie contains the following information: Strong themes, violence and coarse language Researchers who focus on Children and the Mediaīirds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).eBook - Quality Play and Media in Childhood Education and Care.Working with your child and their Digital Privacy.Apps can track: privacy tips and checks. That means that parents who might consider the language a dealbreaker for tweens may have a big decision to make, because Swift has much to offer as a role model. Though these mature themes are also relatable for younger audiences, there’s a fair bit of swearing (including “s-,” “f-,” “b-” and “a-”). The movie is filled with big messages that matter to girls and teens about self worth, body image, coping with adversity, political engagement and hard work. There’s lots of footage of Swift’s approach to songwriting, and it’s clear how intensely personal her songs are. She shares her ideas, her “moral code,” her changing self image and memories of the difficult times in which she had to call upon strength and insightfulness to make it through. It’s not a concert film - only a few songs are filmed in their entirety - but rather an intimate look at Swift’s journey as she wants it told. “ Taylor Swift: Miss Americana” is a documentary about the singer’s evolution from a musically gifted child to illustrious superstar. Themes include female empowerment, friendship and teamwork. All the movie’s men, on the other hand, are either bad or disappointing. Overall, the female characters are diverse in ethnicity, age and sexual identity, and are all shown to be clever, tough and resilient. While main character Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) doesn’t quite make it to antihero status - she’s self-absorbed and makes many self-serving decisions - Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) consistently put others’ needs ahead of their own. Characters swear often, using words such as “f-,” “s-,” “a-” and more. One character smokes, and it’s implied in one scene that a character gets a sniff of cocaine, giving her a boost of confidence. Frequent drinking includes comically downing shots and drinking margaritas to celebrate sisterhood. The main villain cuts his victims’ faces off while they’re still alive, and people (including a family with children) are gunned down, with blood splatter. That said, violence is nonstop: Sometimes it’s silly fantasy, but many other times it’s graphically brutal. Rape overtones are consistent, but the women aren’t harmed sexually. “ Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” is a violent action fantasy based on DC Comics’ infamous supervillain “girl gang.” It takes place after the events of 2016’s “ Suicide Squad” and seems to be aiming to be the female version of “ Deadpool.” The movie’s theme is about women standing up to their male oppressors and showing that, when they work together, they’re unbeatable.
